Root Canal Treatment in Boca Raton - Advanced Endodontic Care

Root Canal Treatment

Who do you think are candidates for a root canal treatment? This procedure is usually suggested if you have a crack in your tooth caused by genetics or injury, deep cavities, pimples on your gums, severe pain when you bite and chew, lingering sensitivity to cold and hot drinks, and severe tooth decay.

What Is A Root Canal?

A root canal treatment is ideal if you have a badly infected or decayed tooth that has reached the dental pulp. When the infection has penetrated your tooth’s pulp, it may become inflamed, irritated, and infected. This can be caused by numerous factors like trauma, a chip or a crack in your tooth, or repeated dental procedures.

This process involves the removal of the decayed parts of your tooth, disinfecting it, and then sealing the tooth to restore its shape and function. It’s a treatment that will help preserve your tooth instead of extracting it.

What Is The Root Canal Treatment Process?

Root canal treatment can be performed in a single visit. However, sometimes it requires two appointments. The steps are as follows:

  • Your endodontist will anesthetize the area so you won’t feel discomfort during the procedure. Once the tooth is numb, your endodontist will place a dental dam on the area to isolate it and to keep it dry.
  • A tiny opening is made in the dental crown and special instruments are used to remove the pulp from the chamber and root canals.
  • When the canal is clean, your endodontist will fill and seal it with an adhesive cement to keep it in place.
  • During your final visit, a crown will be placed on your tooth to restore its maximum function.

What To Do After Root Canal Treatment?

To ensure that it doesn’t happen again, you should take good care of your teeth following a treatment. Schedule regular visits with your endodontist so they can check for possible signs of re-infection. Apart from seeing your endodontist, you should also see your general dentist for dental exams and cleanings. It’s also necessary you establish a good oral care routine by brushing and flossing every day.

Do You Need Root Canal Treatment?

If you regularly see your dentist and keep up with your oral care routine, there’s very little chance you’ll find tooth decay. However, if you haven’t done these and the decay has reached the pulp, your general dentist will refer you to an endodontist for root canal therapy.
